Rumi shares general information, guidance and reassurance to help girls understand what's happening to their bodies as they grow up. This page is here so it's always clear what that means — and what it doesn't.

What rumi is

A place to ask anonymous questions about puberty, periods and growing up, and to get thoughtful answers in plain language — generated by rumi's safety-first AI system, built and overseen by our team (real people, including mums). It's designed to make you feel less alone, and to help you understand your body.

What rumi isn't

Rumi is not a doctor, and nothing on this site is medical advice. Rumi's answers come from AI, not a human professional, and they're general information only — they can never account for your specific situation, medical history, or symptoms.

How we keep questions safe

Every question is checked by rumi's safety system before an answer is given, and we remove names and identifying information from anything shared publicly. Flagged questions are held back from being answered or published, and our team reviews a log of them, so nothing concerning goes unseen. If a question signals you may be in immediate danger, rumi won't give a general answer. Instead, it will point you straight to Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800, free call, 24/7) or, in an emergency, 000.

Some questions won't appear on the site

Not every question is published. Sometimes that's because it includes personal information. Sometimes because it needs medical care rather than general guidance. Sometimes because it's about someone's immediate safety. This helps keep Rumi safe for everyone.

Sometimes a question needs more help than Rumi can give

Rumi is designed to answer questions about puberty, periods and growing up using AI — it's fast, judgement-free, and always there, but it's not a substitute for a real person. If you're worried about your health or safety, or about something more serious, please talk to a trusted adult, a doctor, or another healthcare professional as soon as you can. If it's an emergency, call 000, or Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800.

For parents and guardians

Growing up can be awkward. That's why Rumi exists. Rumi uses a carefully guided AI system to answer questions honestly and safely — it's not a person, and it's not medical advice, and we say so clearly on the site. If your child has asked something on Rumi that concerns you, we'd encourage a warm, judgment-free conversation.
